“Defeating Enemy Strategies” Sermon Outline:
You have an enemy!
1 Peter 5:8 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
Adversary – antidikos: opponent … enemy.
In Hebrew: hasatan – the adversary!
Hebrew word picture: the snake that devours, consumes, destroys, life.
This enemy has strategies against you that have been laid down for a long time.
Ephesians 6:11 “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
Wiles – methodeia: methods … tricks … tactics … deceits strategies … schemes!
Meta – joined in association … participation.
Hodeuo – to travel … journey.
There is a war going on … we need to prepare for it!
There are “ancient paths” that have been laid down for us, to follow.
Jeremiah 6:16 “Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls.
But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’
Let’s look at and old path … an ancient path … for preparation against warfare.
2 Samuel 5:17 “Now when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines went up to search for David. And David heard of it and went down to the stronghold.”
The enemy hears of the anointing … and go seeking for him.
You have an anointing … the word anointed is – mashach.
If you have Yeshua Mashiach in your life … you are anointed!
The enemy knows you are anointed … they go seeking for you … just as the enemy was on the move when “The Anointed One” (Yeshua) was birthed.
David is aware of it (be alert) … and goes to his stronghold … strong place … fortress.
Psalm 91:1-2 “He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress;
My God, in Him I will trust.”
Look where the enemy goes
2 Samuel 5:18 “The Philistines also went and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.”
Enemy went to enemy territory!
Rephaim – descendants of the Nephilim (giants) … King Og of Bashan (Deut. 3:11) was one … bed was more than 13 ft. long, 6 ft. wide.
What are the giants in your life?
Giants are to be “driven out and destroyed”.
Warning – Rephaim … comes from Rapha (healer) … careful whom you seek out for healing … no witch doctors … brujos … shamans … etc.
Realize what spirit they are obtaining their power from.
What to do when encountered with warfare
2 Samuel 5:19 “So David inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will You deliver them into my hand?”
And the Lord said to David, “Go up, for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.”
Pray and ask! … shall I go up against this? … will You deliver them into my hand?
Take time to pray and ask … two simple things … doesn’t take long … wait for response.
To be used in deliverance ministry … pray and ask … we have encountered some – no results … remember the “old paths” … “the good way” … “walk in it”.
Depend on Yeshua for your breakthrough
2 Samuel 5:20 “So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, “The Lord has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal Perazim.”
Baal Perazim – “breaker” … The LORD who breaks out … The LORD breaks through.
Perez (Genesis 38 … from line of Judah … Matthew 1 … genealogy of Yeshua)
You carry a “breaker” anointing! … water that breaks through a dam (your giants) … nothing to hold you back!
John 7:38 “He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.”
Destroy enemy items
2 Samuel 5:21 “And they left their images there, and David and his men carried them away.”
Enemy brings its images (idols) … its “stuff” … into battle … to ensure victory.
Enemy tries to leave their “stuff” behind … be aware! … get it out … destroy it.
Isaiah 54:17 “No weapon formed against you shall prosper…”
Carried them away – nasa: burn! … burn it … don’t let someone else get access to it or use it.
2 Samuel 5:22 “Then the Philistines went up once again and deployed themselves in the Valley of Rephaim.”
Recognize, once the enemy has left … they are regrouping … don’t let your guard down … be alert!
Don’t take previous victories for granted
2 Samuel 5:23 “Therefore David inquired of the Lord, and He said, “You shall not go up; circle around behind them, and come upon them in front of the mulberry trees.”
David again inquires (asks) … don’t take for granted everything from the previous victory.
This time – was given a different strategy!
Wait to hear from the LORD! (word of knowledge/wisdom)
Let God fight your battles
2 Samuel 5:24 “And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines.”
In the tops of the trees … the heavenly realm … angelic armies … going ahead in battle!
The LORD going before you.
2 Samuel 5:25 “And David did so, as the Lord commanded him; and he drove back the Philistines from Geba as far as Gezer.”
Do as the LORD commands!
David fought his battles the way God instructed him.
In each instance he:
- Asked if he should fight or not.
- Followed instructions carefully.
- Gave God the glory.
We also see, and apply to our lives today, the following strategies, to defeat enemy attacks:
- Recognize our anointing.
- Seek God first in all things.
- Depend upon Yeshua for our breakthrough.
- Destroy all enemy items.
- Don’t take previous victories for granted.
- Let God fight your battles.
